Helpful Tips for a Good Home Showing
- In
general, buyers like a house to be light and bright. Even if its daylight, sellers
should turn on as many lights as possible. All curtains, drapes, and blinds
should be positioned to let in maximum light.
- Sellers
should make sure the house smells good. Baking cookies is often recommended,
but for most of us that may be overdoing it. So having a candle burning, a potpourri
pot going, or something natural can often serve as well.
- Yes,
most of us in today's day and age have extremely hectic schedules that don't
allow for us to keep our homes in tip top shape. However, when selling a home
it is recommended that sellers should do their best to have their home look
like a "model home". That can include: removing all clutter from every
room, including the closets; organizing basements, attics, and garages; wiping
down and painting walls and trim if necessary; cleaning all windows, light fixtures
and ceiling fans. Many people advocated repainting with neutral colors to appeal
to a wider range of potential buyers.
- If
a seller has pets they should let their sales agent know so that they can put
a notice with the multiple listing service. The last thing a seller wants is
to have their pet running out the front door and getting lost. When a seller
knows their house is going to be shown, they should remove pets from the house,
or at least keep them outside. Pets underfoot can quickly put a damper on an
otherwise positive showing.
- If
possible sellers should try not to be home when their house is being shown.
Homebuyers will feel like intruders and might not be as receptive toward viewing
the home if the sellers are present. If its inconvenient for the seller to leave
they should try to atempt to be as inconspicuous as possible.
