
Lake Koocanusa is located about 16 miles North of Libby, Montana. Koocanusa was created by the completion of the Libby Dam in 1972. The 90 mile-long lake extends from Northwest Montana up to British Columbia and has a maximum depth of 370 feet.
Lake Koocanusa offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Boating, water sports, fishing, lakeshore camping, and picnicking are just a few of the activities recreation enthusiasts enjoy. Sport fishing is very popular on Lake Koocanusa. Sport fish include: brook trout, kokanee salmon, Kamloops, ling, rainbow trout, and whitefish.
Highway 37 parallels Lake Koocanusa for 67 miles. The stretch of highway yields awesome views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
